In 1953, Vic Cassano, Sr., along with his mother-in-law, Caroline “Mom” Donisi, opened a small, 20-by-15-foot space in Kettering, Ohio, serving up a family recipe that would become an Ohio favorite: the original “Dayton-style” pizza. Over the decades, Cassano’s Pizza King® grew from a local pizzeria to an iconic brand, earning a place in pizza history with its signature thin, salty crust and unique “party-cut” squares. As Cassano’s Pizza King® popularity soared, it became one of the top pizza chains in the U.S., recognized for its delicious pizzas, hearty subs, calzones, pasta, and more. More than 70 years later, Cassano’s Pizza King® remains dedicated to its original recipes, community ties, and commitment to quality, proudly serving customers across multiple states.

Founded 1953 - and the Legacy Continues

Vic Cassano, Sr., alongside his mother-in-law, Mom Donisi, started Cassano’s Pizza King® in 1953, with a passion for pizza and a family recipe in hand. He introduced what would become the iconic “Dayton-Style” pizza. Under his leadership, Cassano’s® quickly became a local favorite and eventually expanded to one of the nation’s top pizza chains. Vic’s dedication to quality and community laid the foundation for the brand’s enduring legacy.

1989-2010

In 1989, Vic Cassano, Jr. acquired control of the company, ushering in a new era marked by his personal touch, eye for innovation, and visionary leadership through tremendous adversity. With a bold vision for the future of the industry, Vic Jr. was responsible for launching game-changing initiatives like the “Signature Dough” wholesale business and the Cassano’s® Call Center. His years as President built the bridge from Cassano’s® humble origins to its place as a regional powerhouse, and set the stage for the next generation of growth. The Cassano’s Cares® Foundation stands as a lasting testament to his commitment to giving back to the community that supported the company from its inception.

2000s - Present

Today, Cassano’s Pizza King® legacy is carried forward by Vic Sr.’s grandsons, Vic “Chip” Cassano III as CEO and Chris Cassano as President. Both Chip and Chris are dedicated to preserving their grandfather’s vision while embracing modern opportunities for refining operations and bolstering growth. Under their leadership, Cassano’s Pizza King® continues to serve up its original recipes, expand its footprint, and give back through the Cassano’s Cares® Foundation, ensuring that each franchise carries forward the same commitment to quality, community, and family tradition that Vic Sr. established.
